Siliconegev 2019: Meet the 8 Startups Competing for a 500,000 Shekels Investment

After investing a million shekels, SilicoNegev returns for the third time to invest in startups with an affinity to the Negev. What will be the next big thing?

After two rounds of investment - in Consis Medical, which developed a novel disposable colonoscopy device; and Green Eye Technology, which utilized machine learning and artificial intelligence to revolutionize the world of agricultural pest control; the largest entrepreneurship conference in the South will be held for the third time on June 20, 2019 at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Alongside amazing speakers from the fields of venture capital, high-tech and even government; and the best workshops on raising capital, business intelligence, networking and building marketing channels; at SilicoNegev 2019 conference you will have the opportunity to witness the finale of the expected start-up competition. The competition began with 101 companies, of which 16 advanced to the semi-finals, in which 8 finalists were appointed:

1. Airqules

More relevant than ever, Airquel's drone development will enable early identification of fires and rapid extinguishing before they are spread. Between the “fire kites”, unattended fires and the unusually high temperatures, in recent months thousands of dunams of land have been burned, hundreds of civilians have been evicted from their homes, extensive damage has been done to property, and we have suffered loss of life. Airquel's technology could not arrive at a better timing.

2. Cybord

Beer Sheva is the intended Cyber-Capital and Cybord fulfils this vision. We've all heard of malware, are aware of it and are careful to protect against it, but how many of us have heard about malicious-hardware? How do we fight the phenomenon? Less than a year ago, the Chinese government broke into 30 US companies, including Apple and Amazon, through a small malicious chip. Cybord has developed a system for physical testing of components and cyber-hardware warfare.

3. Zuta-Core

Using cloud technology? Watching Netflix? All these bits and bytes come to you from enormous server farms that stretch over miles of space and store Tera-bytes of information. All of which are cooled day and night in order to maintain their proper functioning. Zuta-Core, using revolutionary cooling technology, will enable up to 3 times more servers to run on the same farm area. Less real estate, more quality content on Netflix.

4. Soos

The chance of getting a male or female chick is 50%. Roosters are a noble animal, but they are known for their inability to lay eggs. With the increase in egg import quotas, poultry farmers in Israel are at risk. But Soos's incubation protocol may bring them back to the game stronger than ever. The protocol, devoid of chemicals, hormones or GMO, will enable (through sophisticated sensors) to maximize female chicks hatching, which will turn into laying hens.

5. Curiosity Robotics

In a global world like ours, language acquisition is not a simple but a necessary task - for trips, communication and career. In 2014, 72,000 wanted ads (in English-speaking countries) required knowledge of the Chinese language. Don’t speak Chinese? Your children can - through the Curiosity Robotics artificial intelligence robot. The robotic technology, developed in cooperation with Tel Aviv University, addresses the natural curiosity of the child and enables the long-term interaction required to acquire language in a manner, similar to that of a mother tongue.

6. Persimio

Approximately 6,000 people in Israel suffer from hip fractures every year - with diabetics and osteoporosis patients being the main risk group. Persimio has developed a learning algorithm that can predict, on the basis of CT tests, the exact load that could lead to a breaking in the femur; Thus, potentially, preventing thousands of unnecessary fractures and suffering.

7. Brevel

Seaweeds are a wonderful thing. They are the main ingredient in sushi and the solution to air pollution. Microscopic algae, like all plants, are able to carry out the process of photosynthesis- during which carbon dioxide is consumed and emitted as oxygen, but they can do it at a dizzying pace. Imagine if we could produce an enormous amount of said algae and release them into the air? Brevel offers the solution - a technology of concentrating sunlight and harnessing it to produce microscopic algae-based products, at an unprecedented price.

8. Youtiligent

The IoT has never been closer! You know that annoying phenomena that whenever the technician comes – everything works just fine? The next generation probably won’t. Youtiligent makes it possible to turn any "dumb" device into a connected, smart gadget and revolutionize customer services. This technology will enable the user to obtain business insights, operational logistics, and accurate real-time consumption data about his/her device.

There is no doubt that the judges at the finale face a difficult task - to choose only one of these revolutionary solutions. The winning start-up will receive an investment of NIS 500,000 provided by the MTA foundation.
